Simple checklist for logo design

Important attributes all logos should have

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple checklist for logo design

• Do scale your logo down to an inch or less, or print it out on a business card template to see if it is still legible. Lots of designs look great enlarged but scale down to a blob, losing fine detail.

• Design your logo in black only (not grayscale) to see if it still looks as good. If you logo does not work in black, it will not work in color.

• Try not to use too many effects like gradients, drop shadows and other effects that do not translate well to all media. For example, if the client wants to embroider it on a tee shirt or a cap, or etch it on glass, such effects cannot be reproduced.

• Simple and clean concepts always stand out more and are classic. They never go out of fashion. Going with the current trends in your design may cause it to look outdated a couple of years from now.

Important attributes all logos should have

Unique - To help it stand out from the crowd.

Consistency - To help customers identify your brand effectively and easily.

Unity - To make the design look like one whole piece of art and not a jumble of different elements put together.

Scalability - So that your logo looks equally good on a business card as well as on a billboard.

Differentiation - Between the colors in your logo so that it translates well to black and white or grayscale.

Memorability - In the usage of log, tagline and other material. Repeating a set of design elements help combine all marketing pieces together and help people remember your business easier.

Meaningful - So that people think of you first when they have a need for the kind of service you provide.

Professionalism - In the quality of design and printing, which speaks volumes about your business.
